Installation Requirements

Experienced Installation Required

Fire and smoke control doors must be installed by competent personnel in accordance with NZS 4520:2010 Section 3 and manufacturer installation guides. We can provide installation with our experienced installation team.

Installation Standards

  • Clearances between door leaf and frame per NZS 4520
  • Intumescent seals correctly positioned and continuous (not painted)

Wall Preparation

The wall opening must be properly constructed to the required FRL before door installation per NZS 4520:2010 specifications.

Installation Warnings

  • Experienced Installation Required: Fire and smoke control doors must only be installed by competent personnel with knowledge of NZS 4520:2010 requirements.
  • Wall Fire Rating: The wall opening must have an FRL equal to or greater than the door assembly.
  • Do Not Modify: Do not cut, drill, plane, or otherwise modify the door leaf or frame unless authorised by the door manufacturer in writing. Any modification may compromise fire performance. Only fire-tested, approved hardware substitutions are permitted.
  • Seal Integrity: Intumescent seals must be correctly positioned and continuous. Do not paint over intumescent seals.
  • Clearances: Door-to-frame clearances must comply with NZS 4520.

Use Limitations

  • Maximum Opening Size: Per fire test report. Do not install in oversized openings exceeding tested dimensions.
  • Internal Use Only: Standard fire doors are designed for interior use in normal building conditions. Not suitable for high-humidity or exterior applications unless specifically rated.
  • Door Closer Force: Must provide closing force within Code requirements (typically 65-90N).
  • Hold-Open Devices: Fire doors must not be propped open without approved automatic release mechanisms connected to the fire alarm system.
  • Complete Assembly Rating: Fire rating applies to the complete doorset assembly as tested. Substituting any component voids the tested rating and intended door use.

Maintenance Warnings

  • Six-Monthly Inspections Required: Per NZ Building Code.
  • Immediate Repair: Damaged doors must be repaired or replaced immediately.
  • Approved Finishes Only: Only use approved paints/finishes.
  • Do Not Paint Seals: Do not paint over intumescent seals.
